What CrewTalk is
A private push-to-talk app for small crews. It supports online rooms and an optional local boat mode (device-to-device / local network) that does not use Marine VHF or public radio spectrum.
Data we process
- Callsign / display name you choose (stored on your device and, for online rooms, on our server with the room).
- Room metadata (room name, invite code, membership, short text messages) for online rooms hosted by us.
- Technical logs (IP, timestamps, errors) for security and reliability of the hosted service.
- Microphone audio is used only to send live push-to-talk while you hold the button. We do not sell audio recordings. Online mode sends encrypted media between peers (WebRTC). Local boat mode keeps media between your devices.
- Camera (optional) only if you use QR join; frames are processed on-device to read the code and are not uploaded as a photo library.
What we do not do
- No advertising trackers in the core app experience.
- No sale of personal data.
- No public social feed or discovery of private rooms.
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
We process data to provide the service you request (contract / steps prior to contract) and for legitimate interests in securing and improving the service.
Retention
Online rooms expire after a set period (typically about 7 days) unless reconfigured. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and operations. Local boat pairings live on your devices until you clear site data or leave the session.

Under UK GDPR you may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction where applicable. Email michael@mnlabs.uk.
Children
CrewTalk is not directed at children under 13.
Safety notice
CrewTalk is not a substitute for Marine VHF, emergency services, or licensed safety radio. Use official channels for distress and navigational safety.

We may update this policy; the date above will change when we do.
